Reunited with Bill n Diane in New Gretna
We pulled in to the VIKING Yachting Center Marina on Friday afternoon. It was blowing a little and the VICTORIA was a bear to maneuver in the tight space between one sneaker type and the other. The washing of our dirty boat commenced and all the usual stuff, once we hit a dock. I use the word "hit" figuratively speaking. I read some more of "Chesapeake" and then around 3 Bill and Diane showed up with a cooler full of food and a new electric fry pan!! She had called me yesterday and asked for a list of things we could use (like I said in an earlier post). But the electric fry pan !! Its a beauty to. We stood around and chatted for a while and then it started to rain. Diane wanted to get back to the Sea Spirit to close the hatches, so off we went. It turned into a downpour with hail and everything. Diane said,"Hail Hail the Thompsons have arrived!!"
While waiting for a break in the weather to go to dinner we visited over at the Sea Spirit and a friend of theirs came by. Bob Olsen is a local artist who has made it big in the ornamental duck arena. It started off years ago when he and his wife were invited to a Christmas party. The host had asked for guests to bring a hand made item for the swap. Bob picked up a piece of wood and carved a little duck. His wife said that it was so nice she wanted to keep it and ended up bringing something else. Now keep in mind I'm an amateur photographer so the presentation of these AMAZING pieces of art isn't how I think they should be presented. They actually feel like textured feathers. The wood Bob uses is very light weight and the tools he uses are quite intricate. It takes many hours for 1 duck to be completed. The end product has won him quite a few prizes and awards! I hope these picks do them justice. If your interested in aquiring one of these one of a kind piece's to add to your home decor you can contact Bob at :
