At 1:30 this am Eddie woke me up with the sounds of him vigorously ransacking Misty's food dish.
At 3:30 after some time trying to get to sleep I hear country music and laughing. It was a little strange that in the middle of nowhere at 3:30 in the morning...this center console, with about 4 guys on it start cruising the area. Add loud talking and laughing and country music playing and you have a recipe for = wide awake. Not to mention they had a spot light that they were shining around. Don't know what they were looking for. Gary got up and made his presence known by standing on the deck and staring. They moved on. Then a short while later they anchored further up the creek. We eventually went back to sleep. Things that make you go hmmm.
We got under way about 8:00am all a little groggy. I have pictures to share but no cord to download them. The original cord was misplaced in Vero. Ian has been kind enough to let us borrow his. But he needed it. So I'll do it later. As we travelled today a boat called "Romance II" radioed us up and come to find out they are from Warwick Cove Marina. They'll be home in 8 days. That's 100 miles day.
It's overcast and cool, about 70 degrees with hardly any wind at all. Destination Minim Creek at mile marker 415.5.
Gary spotted a snake swim in front of the boat and Ian spotted an Alligator off the port side. We stopped at McClellanville today to gas and water up. Great choice. Gas was "only" 3.10 a gal. We saved 55.00!! I't a Commercial Shrimp port. I' have some great pics of it as soon as I can. On our way back to the ICW (cause we had to get off briefly to gas up) we could smell some kind of blossom......just lovely.
There is a Tornado watch just south of us. We contacted Skipper Julie and she suggested diggin in and waiting it out. Lots of Thunderstorms in the area. None right were we are though, yet.
We have arrived at Minim Creek at 2:45. It's threatening to rain any second. Off in the distance I can hear thunder. A Tornado watch is still in effect till 8:00 tonight. One has touched down 20 miles south of us. The sky is in layers of different hues of grey and types of clouds. The lower lighter layer is going one way and the higher darker layer appears to be going in the other direction. I asked Gary what our plan was if a Tornado or severe weather seriously threatened. He said pray and hang on. Okay then , as long as we have a plan. Eddie and Misty got into it. Close quarters can get on anyone's nerves after a while and when it rains it gets even tighter, including the litter box that has to get moved indoors. Good thing I cleaned it out this afternoon and it was all fresh litter. There is no internet here and phone service is intermittent. As the rain started pouring down in a deluge we settled in and watched a little educational TV. The Simpsons were on, the episode were Marge gets amnesia and the only person she can't remember is Homer. Uh boy...............
I did manage to get my fishing pole in the water again when the rain calmed down. This time I put a chunk of hot dog on the half bitten fake shrimp lure. I was hoping that might entice some desperate fish to take a bite. Gary doesn't think it will help. All of a sudden Gary jumps up, whispering loudly and pointing at the shore. There close to the high grass is an 8 foot alligator slowly moving near the shoreline. There is one section thats got a dark muddy beach. The head on this thing is huge. The tail is bent and trailing behind....... just like a dinosaur. The first I've seen in the wild this close up. From the boat to the alligator is maybe 50 to 70 ft. Amazing. The last time we were here at Minim Creek was
11-14-05. We hadn't started thinking about Gators yet.
Gary had brought Eddie to that dark muddy beach to go potty.
Keep us in your prayers, your in ours (It's definately working)
