Friday:
Its a gorgeous day here in Deltaville VA. The temp is supposed to be 90 ..................till the thunderstorms hit later so Gary and I are getting off the boat and walking around town. Brittany wants to stay onboard to do schoolwork and internet. Eddie has already had shore leave. Its's a dollar a foot to land the dinghy at the Marina and 10 a day to use their facilities ie showers, laundry etc. On the way to the dock Gary stopped and met Mike, the guy on the catamaran. He lives here and offered to drive us to the store etc. Gary found a marina rep and asked to land the dinghy to walk the dog and they said there is NO charge for that. So I guess we were misinformed. We started walking after it started warming up and by the time we got to West Marine at the other end of town I was wooped. On our way back to the marina a guy in a little white car stopped and asked us if we needed a ride! We gladly got in and expressed our thanks. He dropped us off and we climbed in the dinghy and putted back to the boat. I decided to go for a swim. Ian and France came up in their dinghy to chat. So while they were chatting I jumped in ........... and OH how refreshing. Then Gary says to me,"Victoria swim toward the boat." real calm. Like unnaturally calm. So of course I immediately start to panic and look behind me for what I'm sure is a shark fin. No.........its a huge red jellyfish. Ian and France get their dinghy out of the way so I can get back to the boat easier and I clammered up onto the swim platform. O.....K.....ay then swimmings over for now. We pooped out early.
Saturday:
After prying Brittany off the boat with a crow bar, we walked up the road to the Deltaville Maritime museum. Brittany met a girl there who was holding a miniature horse called "Ferdinand". He was part of a fundraiser to refurbish the last of a local boat called the F D Crockett. You can either take the horse or $500.00 cash. We might opt for the cash. :) Well, he was sooo cute. Brittany decided that it was a good idea after all to get off the boat for a while and now wanted to walk into town. We met up with France and Ian who were coming back from town and said there was a wonderful farmers market but they were closing in an hour. So off we power walked to town .......in the heat. Not as hot as yesterday though thankfully. We spent every last dime of that 5 bucks and then walked across the street to the coffee shop. Gary and Brittany went inside and I sat outside to cool down. Brittany got a delicious strawberry shake, and Gary got some kind of cold coffee frappaccino or something. There was a man sitting outside and come to find out was the owner. Mike was his name and he was very personable. Gary and Mike were having a great conversation when my pocket rang. I saw that it was Ian and made a mental note and told Gary. Gary and Mike went back to talking boats and local trivia stuff. The phone rang again. Again it came up as Ian. Gary said ,"I better take this in case the anchor is dragging". It was France and later Gary said that he knows her well enough now to know that something was wrong.......very wrong. She asked where we were in conjunction with the marina.
Gary's face became very serious and said we'll be there as soon as we can. He started to turn toward Mike and asked,"Can you give us a ride to the marina?" But Mike was already up and yelling instructions while he was guiding us to his big white diesel truck. "Two in the back and one in the front," he said. While running toward the truck Gary told us that the VERITAS was moking ,it was getting worse and they couldn't find the problem. France was frantic!! Ian had told her to get out of the cockpit and she had on her abandon ship pouch when we got there. We left Mike standing on shore.........waving with many thanks. We could smell burning rubber or something. It was a terrible smell. Ian was trying to locate the problem and France had been telling him to use the fire extinguisher. But there were still no flames. By the time we got to the boat Ian had found a burnt to a crisp wire resting on top of his alternator. All the wires were fried right up to the box. Between Gary and Ian the situation was resolved and the Veritas is okay.
After all the hollabaloo was over and they worked on the boat for a good portion of the afternoon we ate lunch and then dinghied over to a secluded beach. We were the only ones there. It was wonderful. Brittany was builsing sand castles and Eddie was running around like a maniac just as happy as anything. More pics to come.
Sunday:
Gary dinghied me into shore and we walked Eddie. Then I volunteered to walk into town to find out what time church started at the Philippi Christian Church. I got there at 8:45 and service started at 9. I stopped and asked a woman , Mindy , in the parking lot. There were so many wonderful friendly people here and within minutes I was on my way to go pick up Gary and Brittany who had already started hoofing it. Mindy M with her cute little red car scooted up the road and a grateful Gary and Brittany got in. Its another HOT one. When we got back the church feeds everyone a little breakfast and then at the same tables we ate at, we prayed and had service. Communion and everything. They have communion every week , which I prefer. I don't know about you , but I need to be reminded that Christ died on the cross for my sins. He shed his blood to cover my sins, and He suffered and died so I can go to heaven. AMEN? AMEN.............After the wonderful lesson (we discussed Judas in Acts) Mindy again offered her services and we were off to the market for some last minute provisioning. Many other offers were extended to us as well. Thanks to Harrison L and all of you. Gary decided to start walking home. If I were to own a place here I would definately attend and become a member of this wonderful church. Now for a little R & R.
