Pics: Eddie and Charlotte meet
Miss Charlotte (the "other" Corgi)
Brittany and I sitting in front of Parrot Key Caribbean Grill (near Salty Sam's Marina office)
Eddie remorseful of his bad behavior (yeah right). We thought this was pretty funny because his back feet are outside on the deck, and a step down from the rest of him.
Brittany standing next to her dream car..wishing she had shorts on like her Mom :)
We hung around this morning and didn't leave till like 10: 10:30. I snorkeled around while Gary made an excellent breakfast. Brittany decided to clean her room. I almost fell into the water. I've been a lousy snorkeler in the past, and have just recently gotten the hang of it. While under water I came across what looked like the cast off skin of a snake. I asked Gary to hand me the salad tongs so I could manipulate it gently to get a better look. Turns out it is connected to the sea floor. I'll have to look it up later but I'm guessing some kind of sea worm. It was about as big around as my wrist and it gently curled , for about 2 feet. I found others that were smaller. Very interesting. Lots of star fish and sea grass and fish.
It's 2:30 and we have decided to stop at Salty Sam's near Ft Myers beach. A mooring ball is 13.50 a night! Good thing, we may be here till Tues +. Many of the boats here are from CT, NJ, NH etc. The first boat we came across was the "Jemima" from Jamestown RI. We couldn't believe it. Phelps was very nice and explained that he had left RI 8 years ago and maintained a house on Anna Maria Island. He was only out for a week kind of a jaunt. He picked up a mooring ball because of the front moving in , for the first time in 8 years. The marina needed a copy of your ins. which Phelps didn't have. We were fine.
We'd just gotten back from exploring the neighborhood, which consisted of dusty construction sites, empty parking lots and a seedy bar or two. Eddie had hopped off the dinghy and I was right behind him. Two guys go by in a 20 foot center console and their waving and yelling "Corgi !" So we wave and start to unwind a little, Gary pours a scotch and makes me a 7 + 7.
A few minutes later the captain of the 20 footer pulls up. His thick grey hair all blown back and just a hint of tummy peeking out from under his T shirt. His fishing partner "Lenny" had a slight build, a red baseball cap on, and skin similar to leather from hours out in the blazing sun working on boats. The Captain (we found out later) is a Vet and on board with him was "Charlotte" the quietest, sweetest most well behaved Corgi you'd ever want to meet. I asked if he'd trade and all I got was a dirty look from Gary. Eddie then proceeded to play the "I'll sniff you but you can't sniff me or I'll snap" game. Which Charlotte didn't appreciate and she ignored him for the rest of our people visit. Good for her.
Oop, change of plans. We are underway. We discussed it, and we've decided to push on before this front moves in. Seeing as how this place wasn't our cup of tea. Although we were tempted when we chatted with someone that lives at the marina who said, " Take a dinghy ride over to the Ft Myers Beach and take a right. That's where all the college kids on spring break are, doing dirty things!" ..............mmm ............Perhaps not. Gary said, " we like to be in bed by 9" The guy said, "Oh yeah ...the whole early to bed early to rise thing...right?" Ahhh yeah...thats it. He had a beautiful boat too, called a Schucker. I'll have to Google it.
We did however, on the advise of another boater, take the motor off the dinghy and store it on the boat. The dinghy was put up on davits so no seedy types would confiscate it under the cover of darkness. That's when they come out ya know. Yeah we're ready to move on.
Hello to all our new friends at the LaCosta Condo Party Plex who have started to email us. Thanks to Mom and Dad for sharing them with us. What a nice bunch of people.
