Sunday March 26th A tragedy deflected
Hello everyone
During this past week we had some excitement here at the Marina. A sail boat broke loose (that's happened about 4 times since we've been here) and was smashing into the bridge. I'll give you a pic of the bridge and how its situated by us. Couldn't get you a pic of what was happening because it happened to fast. Seems, like I said, that a large sail boat broke loose and people were standing around watching as this boat ground up and down the concrete bridge supports. First it smashed one way and then another, just being pushed around by the high winds we were experiencing. The mast had obviously had enough and awkwardly tilted side to side as the boat moved about. People talked about how if the owner didn't come in a timely manner it was possible that as the tide went out enough of the boat would fit under the bridge and get crushed, being a total loss. There was also talk of why noone wanted to go out and try to save it. Some said that you'd be taking on the reasponsibility of calling TOWBOATUS , and paying for it. The owner could sue you, if something went wrong in the process of your efforts, and say the boat sank or sustained even more severe damage. Then, one of the onlookers..... all of a sudden sucked in a breathe and pointed at the boat and screamed "there's a dog on the boat! !" There on the deck was a dog walking around. He was looking quite afraid and confused. Poor thing. He was losing his balance as he frantically looked for a way off his unstable "backyard". Two men from the Marina , George a resident, and Mike a Marina employee hopped in a dinghy and carefully and quickly motored over to the distressed vessel. The dog was still protective as George went aboard and it was reported that he growled at his intruder. However, as Mike maintained the dinghy at a safe distance(the boat was thrashing about) George won over his friend in trouble and safely got the two of them back in the dinghy. The dogs owner quickly came and retreived the little black and white , border collie type dog. The boat owner showed up after he was contacted later in the afternoon. The owner has been on the boat making repairs and battening down the hatches for a couple of days now. .
