5) Brittany got her pic of an air boat
We stayed at Glades Resort Monday night. When we pulled in a guy in a golf cart waved
and talked to Gary about where to go. This was important because Hurricane Wilma had
ripped through the place and there was only one dock available to tie up to, that had power.
The "marina" was in the process of rebuilding and snugged up to an RV park. Where for 200.00 a month (if you sign up in March) you can live in a trailer. Very cool place. Laundry and showers, and everyone was very nice. We took the bikes off first thing and went for a ride.
One cow we passed found Brittany especially good at imitating him and wouldn't take his eyes off her. I think he was in love. So was she. We love cows, and Manatees, and dolphins. :-)
Especially nice was Morris, a big country music lovin, laid back, easy smilin guy who adopted us right away. First he tried to show us where the resident 12 foot gator and his 4 foot side kick hung out, but they were gone. Without missing a beat he pointed out two big turtles sun bathing on the side of the bank so Brittany could take a picture of them, but she scared em away. Then he gave Brittany his personal golf cart to drive so she and I could go up and take a shower, about a mile 1/2 away. We explained that she had experience driving a golf cart at the flea market. He was impressed. Gary stayed behind and tied up the boat. Later Morris drove us all, in his beautiful white 4 door pick up , into "town". This consisted of a ten minute drive down secluded country roads to the Citgo station (which also served as the local market) a bait and tackle shop "that ain't hardly ever open" and a little hole in the wall that served us "Gater Bait Burgers" that were to die for. I was sorry there wasn't any gater meat involved. He's the only single guy in the park and wouldn't let us pick up the tab. He was just glad he had some company to eat dinner with. A very nice guy.
After we said our goodbye's we stopped at Port LaBelle Marina for fuel. We paid 2.55 a gallon.
The best price we've seen so far. She took 40 gallons on starboard and 58.50 on port. Bill
came to $251.50. The only reason they sold us any fuel at all was the fact we were from RI. They are usually only open Monday and Friday from 8-1. We chatted alot about RI, and the East coast. More nice people.
Well on tuesday: for 70 bucks, we were not impressed with Fort Myers Boat Basin. Florida law states that a power boat can not pick up a mooring. A sail boat can though. What they didn't tell us on the radio was we could have anchored. Grrr , We did have two nice dock hands, but the concrete dock was about 4 feet above the gunnel (side of the boat) and we had no ladder, so climbing on and off was a chore. Especially with 2 big bags of laundry, shower bags and laundry det., bleach and downey. Showers and laundry facilities were great so that was a big plus. Security was pretty lax.
So here we are on our way to visit with Larry and Lenore who so graciously invited us to stay
with them for a night, and give the boat one night free dockage. I think we'll be in Venice, I'll
update. Ta ta for now.
Keep us in your prayers, Your in ours
