Thursday-heading out to Dismal Swamp Canal

Pictured: we are through the first bridge and moving onward to Dismal Swamp Creek.

Many boats went straight not opting for the ICW, for their own reasons

Last night it was really cold and I had my little West Marine Toque on while I slept, along with wearing about 4 layers, and additionally hiding under blankets and sleeping bags. This morning is glorious. We are praising GOD that the sun is blazing and I'm now in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. Up top, Gary and Brittany have on light jackets. We had alot of company leaving the marina to meet the first bridge when it opened. Jean Marc is staying behind this morning. He hopes to meet up with us this afternoon. He's mentioned his sadness regarding not having anyone that he loves to share this experience with. We hope our growing affection for each other is lessening the effects of him traveling by himself, for he is not alone. In many ways.

We have just gotten through our first EVER lock! ! ! VERY Exciting! ! and a little unnerving. Check out the pics. So we are officially in the ICW. WOO HOO

Brittany is acting as Gary's second pair of eyes, looking for obstacles in the water. We were warned to watch out for DEAD HEADS. Anyone who knows Grandma Alice, knows that typically dead heads are what she pinches off her lovely flowers in her garden. However, here it is a term referring to logs that float vertically in the water. What is sticking up above the surface looks kinda like a head.

Brittany came out with this statement today,"Okay, I'd like you guys to chew on this thought without making any comments. I want to get my ear cartilage peirced."

I held my tounge for about 7 seconds and asked her," Brittany have you ever looked at anyone who has odd piercings and said to yourself, "Gee that person looks like a intelligent addition to society" Right....................... also if you want to go to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, did you happen to see any midshipmen wearing anything but a uniform? Right...............

NEXT

Well so far the Canal (affectionately called the "DITCH" ) is anything but dismal. It's beautiful.
Off to the left (off our port side) all along the canal is a road about 50 yards away with traffic on it. Trucks going by and houses, and school buses all going about their dailies. We're lovin it.

Love the comments keep em comin

Your in our prayers, keep us in yours
