Saturday 11-19-05 City Marina Beaufort SC

Pictured here before I forget, is the boat to avoid.
These people speak no English, never seem to put their radio on, and are not very friendly. Aside from that.. they are a hazard to others. So far on their trip down the ICW they've lost a dinghy, lost 2 anchors (one they cut off because it was too heavy ?!?!) Almost lost their lives because he wasn't paying attention and ran into a moving barge thinking it was a stationary object!! They have been sailing the St Lawrence (which is a difficult stretch of water, I'm told) supposedly for 5 years.
They show no evidence of experience by anyone that we have run into. We just always hope they are either way behind or way ahead. Everytime Gary turns around there it is .......the "Persaide". Even people that speak French fluently have tried to help them and it appears that they are just daft. It is customary to announce on the radio that your gonna pass someone on the radio. "I'll be passing you on the port side Capt." etc....this guy just stretches ,his left arm straight out without ever turning around.

Today we pulled the anchor first thing and headed over to City Marina (the anchorage).
First thing ended up being like 9:00. It was freezing down below, but once we got upstairs
in the "salon" and turned the propane stove on we were kinda toasty. At 10ish we pulled in and Rob (North C) was on the dock with a welcoming wave. We anchored up, she dug in real nice, and then dinghy'd over to the marina where we were greeted by the rest of our friends. The weather is looking real nasty outside (meaning not in the ICW) with high winds and waves. That means we will have a lot of company in the ICW, which is fine by us, we thrive on it. I immediately took advantage of the showers and felt like a million bucks! ! Amazing how blow drying your hair, putting on some make up, and fresh clothes can make you feel. France, Leona, Terry, and Brittany had a trip to the market all planned by the time I imerged from the showers. We ended up taking the marina car (a white subaru legacy wagon , that reeked of fuel, and had a broken drivers seat) to the Bi-Lo shopping plaza. We packed the car to the gills and headed back to the Marina. The dinghy was sitting so low in the water after we put everything in it that he was afraid he'd have to get a barge permit. Gary offered for me to go rest on the Voyageur C, have a glass of wine, and eat snacks while he went to put the grocery's away on the Victoria. He was gone so long that I called him on the radio. He observed that we had enough eggs to whip up an omlet large enough to float back on. hahaha He's so funny.......... Now it's 10 to 6 and the guys decided to pick up a pizza or have it delivered whatever. We are supposed to be on the Veritas at 6:30. That ain't happnin. It's 6:29 and the pizza isn't here yet
