Little Egg Inlet-Tues-Wed and Thurs Oct 6

Little Egg Inlet is a nightmare. Just like the gas dock attendant back in Manasquam said it is. Gary loves Barnequet Bay. Long Beach Island is lovely too.We motored off the beaten path to Allen's Dock, so we could visit BillNDiane D. (Friends of ours from the Elevator bs. in PA). We went up Bass River and meandered for about 16 miles. The view was the same for most of it. About a foot of dark earth visibal above the water line and then tall grass, for miles. We arrived Tuesday night and it got dark fast. We tied up to the gas dock and started fighting off the mosquitos. CLOSE THE SCREENS! ! ................I hate mosquitos almost to the point of neurosis. Thanks Mary at By The Bay Canvas in Charlestown for showing me how to make them. Your the best. After the Dockmaster came and let us know (in a nice way) we wouldn't be able to stay there for long, we had to come up with plan B. Viking boats has a manufacturing marina just across a bit and so we figured after our first night at the gas dock we'd call em in the morning. Diane drove down from Allentown PA (2 1/2) hours to see us, and show us around. Bill is on a fishing trip and will catch up with us probably Friday morning. She and Bill have a real nice boat here and she was provisioned for an extended stay. We went out for a lovely dinner at the Casino. Our new favorite place in NJ. It's very low key and all the regulars frequent it. When you first walk in you can't help but notice, off to the right, all the liquor bottles lining the front and side walls. There is a cashier in front of you (you can go right or left) and its basically a liquor store. Off to the left is a rest/bar and then tables an boothes. The flat screen tv's are blaring with whatever sports program/game is on. Some people even walked in with Yankees' paraphanalia on, if you can believe that!! The food was delicious, and we had a real nice time.
We slept great........ till 6 AM when the trash truck emptied the dumpster and there must have been a bag of bottles in there. CRASH! ! Guess its time to get up. Diane and I left in her car to do some laundry and shopping. Gary and Brittany stayed behind to clean the boat. While Diane and I were out Gary called and asked where our boat Ins. paperwork was and I told him. Then I asked him "why?" The owner of the Viking Marina told him that we needed a 1/2 a million dollar liability policy to dock there. We were like WHAT!! Well turns out the guy has gotten burned a couple of times from people that owned wooden boats and had abandoned them. So we can't stay where we are at the gas dock , this guy won't rent a spot to us, and some pretty snotty weather is headed our way. We need to find a place to hole up till it passes, possibly till Tuesday. I tell Gary not to worry I'm bringing Pizza home for lunch. I prayed about it and gave it to God. We had time to stop at Stewarts for a root beer float MMMMMMMMMM. The guy met Gary and he showed the guy the boat. He could tell that Gary was a hard worker and had taken great pains to take care of the boat. He loved it and gave us our choice of slips. So here we are in New Gretna NJ snug as a bug, and only 40 bucks a night, ($1.15 a foot). There were a few people watching the boat pull in with great interest. After all she doesn't look like any other boat in the marina. SO we met Jim and Joy from the JIMS JOY II, and Wayne, Patti and their little side kick "Sailor" a dachshund on the BUM'S REST, and Bob and Pat on the "Wave Dancer III" We ate at the same place(Mystic Casino) and it was delicious. Diane offered Brittany a night on their boat for a change of pace, she was happy to do so. Gary and I went up and used the new shower facilities. Very nice.
We slept great and woke Thursday to an overcast but calm day. Diane showed up with Brittany, bagels and lovely cream cheese's. We did a little shopping because I was told that there is no fresh produce from here to Cape May. Bread also is an issue. So that's taken care of now. We are just hanging out right now. It's 1:00 and starting to rain, great time to do school work , blog, nap..............Very nice, very nice indeed. Around 5 ish we grabbed some contributions and went over to Diane's boat the "Sea Spirit" for dinner. We had a wonderful evening eating, watching 'The Ghost and Mr Chicken' (with Don Knots)and chatting. Brittany got another invite to stay over and she went for it again. Diane is great people and they get along great too.
