Sunday - Port Jefferson
It wasn't cold at all last night. Slept like a baby till 4:20! Misty had been put in the crate because she disturbs Brittany. So Brittany slept on while I got up and attended to the cat. I still got almost 8 1/2 hours sleep. WOO HOO. I almost always sleep better on the boat. We got up about 7:30 to get ready for church. Gary and I got our shower bag together and took Eddie to shore. The combination lock on the shower doors wouldn't work. The unenthusiastic guard at the little office house informed us that the showers don't become available until 9:00! ! ! ! Who the heck starts showering at 9:00 in the morning! ! ! Back to the boat for another cup of Postum. But whats that I hear??? G aaaaaa rrrrr yyyyyyy .. It's Freddy yelling from about 300 yards away off the dock. Brittany even got up and decided to go with us to see Freddy and Thomas (4 1/2). He invited us to his house for showers and breakfast. What a guy ! ! Liz had a pot of coffee ready and clean towels. What a gal! ! We had a great time and the food was EXCELLENT! ! Thanks to Freddy and Liz for their hospiitality and great water pressure.
It's 5:18 and we are moored for the night all safe and sound at City Island (the Bronx NY)
Well we had an awesome dinner tonight at the Stuyvesant(Sti-ver-san) Yacht club. We met Dina the barmaid and she filled us in on some of the local information. Eddie the launch driver (a young kid who loved the idea our Eddie had the same name.) introduced us to Jeanette (another boater)who had just done Hells Gate yesterday (a dangerous stretch in NY-where you have to hit this particular intersection at the right time and the right tide. There is only a 15 minute window where you either get nowhere fast and spin around in circles or you hit it so fast that you can't stear.) We are headed there tomorrow morning about 10:30am. Gary is dipping into our well of experience called Tom R. I'm sure we'll do fine. Tomorrow will tell. Stay tuned for the next episoooode. Same BAT TIME same BAT CHANNEL.
