Starting from Friday night - Old Saybrook Ct
Friday night we anchored up in Old Saybrook Ct. When we first pulled in I mentioned that the intended spot looked too exposed for my liking. Captain Gary reassured me that as long as the wind wasn't out of the SE and the tide........blah blah blah. At 9:30 PM we were getting tossed to and fro. So now with some...satisfaction I can say "cause you didn't listen to your wiffffe!!!!"
While Gary, and Brittany took Edward to shore, I took the first official indoor shower. This process (and I'm sure we'll have it down pat in about 8 months) consists of opening a 5X5 door flap and pulling out the shower curtain. There is a bungee cord threaded through the holes that have to be attached to the hooks on the wall so it can hang.I borrowed a pink little plastic tub from Grandma Alice's laundry room (no worries Mom I'll get it back to you) and filled it with hot soapy water. Using a face cloth and the handy shower head, it got the job done. I think my Mom used to call this a Portagee bath. Having HOT water on board is fabulous.
We woke to a breathtaking sunrise. The outboard gave us a little trouble this morning. I use "us" loosley but, Gary got it going much to Eddie's delight.
I'll be driving across the Long Island Sound (there is nothing for me to run into) today. The Long Island Sound is a vast expanse of water with not alot going on.
The occassional jackass (thats biblical Roy) crosses our path and leaves us bobbing across their wake, but all in all it's pretty relaxing. In fact that's what I was doing when I wrote this. Driving with my feet. No wonder Gary takes over when we get into tight situations.
Brittany is showering while Gary busies himself doing dishes etc while Eddie watches him adoringly. I have "Long John Silver"on VHS tape, playing in the background on our handy portable VHS player. Thought that choice to be appropriate.
It's almost 3:00 and we are going to p/u a mooring @ the Setauket (See-talk-it) Yacht club in Port Jefferson NY. We p/u yellow ball #500 , $40.00 a night.
After settling in we took the dinghy to shore. We wanted to park in front of some fancy Inn(cause it was closer to town) but they were going to charge us $6.00 to tie up the dinghy. Gary would have none of it. "I'm not paying 6 bucks to tie up a dinghy!!" So Brittany , Eddie and myself waited while he took the dinghy back to the yacht club dock and walk around. In the process he ripped the seat pocket out of his shorts getting out of the dinghy. But no matter, at least we didn't pay the 6 bucks for the tie up. :-) chuckle chucle chuckle. After depositing our trash in a local bin (we figured out later that was against the rules) we walked around town making friends and eating NY pizza. mmmmmmmmmm Well almost all of us were making friends. Eddie was a little over stimulated and tried moving away from this over zealous petter. He nipped her finger and yelped. Uh boy. Quickly back to the boat for PB & J.
We tried calling Roy for Freddy and Liz's # but to no avail. Then Gary called Mom and Pops and got to talk to Skip. Skip and Carol (family) were visiting them. We missed them by a day :(
We had an uneventful Sat night. We dosed off about 8:00 to the constant whurring sound of the electrical power house that sits right on the shore in the harbor.
