Friday pics-Museum-Mermaids Purse Mystery solved

The Calvert Marine museum was EXCELLENT!

1) This first picture is a prehistoric shark that scientists totally made up out of a tooth and a pc of bone! ! ! That's amazing in itself, don't ya think? It's 37 feet in length, made out of foam and epoxy.

The next two pictures are the incubator aquarium for ..........skate. That's right folks they are raising them on purpose!!!! It was fascinating really.... and the Mermaids Purse mystery is solved. You know , what the check is this thing that you find on the seashore? Well that's the egg case for skate. She swims along, pops out an egg case, and keeps on going. The egg case is soft like wet leather and it has those curly ends on it to catch a hold of grass or whatever. Where you see the 8-12 week sign on the case, that is an infant skate (alive) still attached to the yolk, which feeds him till he gets a little bigger. As long as he stays protected in the little tiny aquarium he'll live, even outside the egg case. Brittany was fascinated and is seen here getting ready to take a pic. with her camera. The egg cases are also alive and as the skate grows the case gets thinner and thinner (we could see the baby skate inside) until its time to break out. That's what you find on the beach, the spent egg case!!

Then we walked a little further and there was this boat hanging from the ceiling. Next to it was a picture of Lucille Ball, holding little Ricky, and Ricky Sr. On the same boat. Very cool. As I started to run out of picture space I took this shot of a sign posted on the side of a tiny little shack. The last pictures are of the specific
style boat that was used on the river.
